This brocade is
so well finished that it is hard to believe it could have been made
on a hand-operated, simple loom. Traditionally, it is made in combinations
of three, five, or seven colors, often mixed with silver or gold thread.
Depending on the pattern and number of colors, the daily output from
this hand-operated primitive machine ranges between a mere 40 up to
150 centimeters only!

Like with the finest carpets - the number of knots per square inch
is very high, and colors change depending on the lighting angle. Syrian
brocade is believed to be the finest in the world. Only two traditional
factories operate now in Syria, and the luxurious brocade we offer is
made in one of them - the internationally renowned "Matini"
factory. Cushions, vests, ties, and other pieces made of this finest brocade
will lend discrete, yet exquisite elegance to your attire or to the decor
of your room.
Everything for brocade
production is supplied locally - from untreated silk, to natural dyes.
These two existing mini-factories are family operated businesses, with
skills passed on from father to son over many generations. By purchasing
one of these unique pieces you will not only become a proud owner of a
real treasure, but you will also be helping to preserve centuries-old
techniques and support the last remaining true artisans - real "endangered
species"!
This
exquisite product deserves good care. You can hand-wash it in cold
water, but dry cleaning is best recommended. Do not bleach. If possible,
hang to dry or use the cold cycle in an electric dryer. Low temperature
should be used for ironing, to avoid damage to the silk fiber. Properly
used, this fine, high quality product will give you years of enjoyment!
